A Negative Influence

Sometimes we are fooled into thinking that the devil’s attacks and influence are like something found in The Exorcist. Terrifying but obvious. While that might be the case sometimes, what seems to be more likely these days is that the enemy’s attacks and influence look more like a popular and related set of “values” dressed up as love and acceptance. These “values” erode the connection to God and His order. It sets the person up for radical failure. If one does not guard their heart and mind against these attitudes, which seem to be in the very air we breathe, they are in danger of being led astray and into destruction. Not just destruction for themselves, but as we are well aware after recent events, destruction for others.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

The schemes of the devil are many, and that is why we are told;

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole Armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”

The enemy is not a political party or even a political system, but the devil, who, I no doubt, inspires destructive ideas and introduces lies that easily snowball into large-scale poison in a society.

This is a season with strong spiritual attacks, which are producing practical evils. Spiritual attacks require spiritual defense and a spiritual response. Put on the Armor today and do your part.

Ephesians 6:14–18

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, (ESV)
